A handmade gift with its own little character
Imagine handing over a little romper you made just for them. Vintage-inspired lace, tiny buttons, and a chevron or diamond panel you chose yourself.
A 7-page English PDF with instructions for four sizes, written directions and charts for both lace panels, a size and yarn table, abbreviations and photographs of the finished details.
Confident beginner. You should be comfortable knitting and purling, increasing and decreasing, making yarn-over buttonholes and working wrap-and-turn short rows. The lace panel combines yarn overs, SSK and K2tog; both written rows and charts are provided. You will seam the two pieces and attach buttons to finish.
DK yarn: approximately 190 / 220 / 250 / 280 metres (210 / 240 / 275 / 310 yards) for 3 / 6 / 12 / 18 months. Suggested yarn: Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton.
Needles: 4 mm / US 6, or size needed to match gauge. You will also need a darning needle, lockable stitch markers and a stitch holder.
Buttons: three small buttons, approximately 10 mm / 3/8 inch, for the leg opening; two medium buttons, approximately 15 mm / 5/8 inch, for the straps.
Sizes: 3 / 6 / 12 / 18 months, based on a body chest circumference of 40.5 / 43 / 45.5 / 48 cm.
Finished width across the hips, seam to seam: 25 / 27 / 28.5 / 30.5 cm. Length from bib top to crotch: 33 / 35.5 / 39.5 / 42 cm.
Age labels are a guide; compare the baby's measurements and check your gauge before choosing a size.

One download. Two lace looks.
A chevron panel for one little romper; a diamond panel for the next. Both designs are included, worked across the same 11-stitch centre panel and framed by stockinette and garter-stitch edges.
You choose the look. The PDF gives you both written rows and a chart for each panel, so you can follow the format you prefer.
Seven pages covering four sizes, two lace options and the finishing.
Both chevron and diamond panels have written instructions and charts. The PDF explains where the centre panel sits within the garment directions.
Sizes 3, 6, 12 and 18 months include chest guidance, finished hip width, bib-to-crotch length and the approximate yarn needed for each.
Finished-detail photos show the straps, back and leg opening. The garter-stitch borders are worked into the pieces; finish with seams and five buttons.
How the romper comes together
The three-button crotch opening and shoulder straps that fasten at the front are built into the design. The leg and bib borders are knitted as you go, rather than added as separate bands.
The front and back are worked flat from the bottom up. Wrap-and-turn short rows shape the back; side seams and buttons bring the two pieces together.
Babies grow at their own pace. Use the body chest measurement alongside the finished hip width and bib-to-crotch length when choosing a size.

Written or charted—you choose
The chevron uses a 10-row repeat; the diamond uses a 12-row repeat. Both combine yarn overs with SSK and K2tog decreases, keeping the panel at 11 stitches.
The PDF recommends keeping a separate note of your panel rows while following the garment shaping. It is a useful way to know exactly where to return after you put your knitting down.
Sizes follow 3 / 6 / 12 / 18 months. The pattern suggests Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton.
DK yarn: approximately 190 / 220 / 250 / 280 metres, or 210 / 240 / 275 / 310 yards.
Check your chosen yarn against the gauge, rather than relying on the DK label alone.
4 mm / US 6 needles, a darning needle, lockable stitch markers and a stitch holder.
Three small buttons, about 10 mm, for the crotch; two medium buttons, about 15 mm, for the shoulder straps.
22 stitches × 28 rows = 10 × 10 cm in stockinette on 4 mm needles, or the size you need to match gauge.
This keeps the intended size and your finished measurements working together.

No. The romper is worked flat in two pieces. You will seam the front and back together after knitting, then attach the buttons.
Yes. Chevron and diamond panels are included in the same download, each with written rows and a chart. Choose one for the central panel of your romper.
Compare the baby’s chest measurement with the size guidance, then check the finished width and length. If the baby is between age sizes, measurements give you a better starting point than the age label alone.
